Carne Asada Half Chips Half Fries | Jilberto’s | San Diego, California
I always found it odd when SoCal-ers brag “You don’t know good Mexican food until you’ve had carne asada fries!” Because, uh, carne asada fries is not found anywhere in Mexico. At any rate, the concoction above is fusion food at its best. Order of layers from bottom to top: crispy skinny french fries, hot deep fried chips, super flavorful carne asada meat, smooth sour cream, refreshing guacamole, sprinkles of Mexican cheddar cheese, and hot sauce to your liking. Though most people just prefer Carne Asada Fries, I like to order mine half chips half fries and sometimes mix it up by ordering al pastor meat instead of carne asada meat (referred to as “adobada chips”). Beware some places absolutely ruin this dish, but if you find your way down my area of San Diego near the Mexico border, I promise Jilberto’s will not disappoint.
